Wizards 100, Raptors 98

The end of the game kind of reminded me of this when JK hit that three to force the tie at 96.  The play was a little sloppy but somehow the ball ended up in Kapono's hands and he hit the clutch three.  The only difference was that the Wizards had some time to get the game-winner and Caron Butler got the shot off at the buzzer with the Jordan-like crossover on Marion.  The game time was changed to a 8:00pm EST start due to ESPN pulling the plug on coverage of the game, as this game didn't turn out to be a battle of two Eastern Conference powerhouses as ESPN had originally thought .  Either way, even though it was a garbage game between two of the worst teams in the league, it was at least entertaining.

This was originally supposed to be a game of the Raps showcasing their young talent but turned out to be another regular season game as the Raps could barely keep up with the Wiz with their starters.  Quincy Douby didn't get any minutes and POB only saw the floor for six minutes.  Bosh led the way for the Raps with 21 pts (7-11), 10 rebounds and 5 assists (he had a few nice no-look passes), Jose Calderon had 15 pts and 11 assists.  Jason Kapono suprisingly had a nice game, scoring 20 pts, hitting 6 threes including the three to tie it at 96.

For the Wiz, Brendan Haywood (who Devlin was commenting on how out of shape he was) scored 15 pts with 9 boards and 5 swats.   The Raps played horrible defense this game especially on Haywood as he got a few easy dunks down low.   The first half had some horrible shooting early as both teams were only shooting in the 30% range.  Antawn Jamison had 24 pts/12 rebounds and Caron Butler had 21 pts/7rebounds including the game-winner.

Key Notes:

  • Wiz forward Dominic McGuire had 8 pts, 11 boards, 2 steals, 3 blocks
  • Even though  both teams shot poorly in the first half, the Wizards shot 50% from the field and the Raps shot 42%
  • Raps were outrebounded 44-40
  • It was Alvin "Boogie" Williams night as he was honored at halftime. My favorite Williams moment? When he dropped the gloves

  • Raps play the Sixers on Sunday

Butler FUCKED UP Marion on that play. Terrible, just awful, defence.
