Stephen A. Smith stands by his words
Written by Sean Francois

ESPN's Stephen A. Smith has updated his blog again this morning and he's not budging.

Stephen is standing by what he first reported on Sunday and re-stated on his blog on Monday, which was Chris Bosh has privately told Toronto Raptors management he is not interested in remaining with the team beyond his current contract:

On Monday after Raptors practice, both Chris Bosh and Bryan Colangelo vehemenently denied the reports.

I don't like to buy into hype very often because there's usually no substance to the story (although they can definitely make an intriguing or shocking headline), but the fact that if Chris Bosh left it would be the biggest Raptors story since Vince Carter getting a new zip code, I only feel it's right to present all sides of the story now, and then we can all see where the chips will land down the road...

Hey Sean,

We'll soon know what's up! Perhaps it's a way to negotiate a new package. It's a matter of time before we'll all know.

Sean, I heard a caller into the FAN590 saying that Colangelo should really be thinking about dumping J.O. and make a push for Wade in 2010 to Toronto. That would be sick!

You're certainly correct that we'll have to see how it all plays out. It would be great if he stayed, but management has to prove in a short amount of time that they can bring the necessary talent in...the countdown to 2010 is on...

I'm not convinced that they would get fair value for him if they made a trade between now and then...so, the Raptors may just have to test the free agent waters in 2010, or make a draft day trade this coming summer (2009).

But as Romes mentioned below, having Bosh stay and a having another superstar like Dwayne Wade come in would be every Raptors fans' dream situation!

Another 17 months of speculation...sigh...

Romes, that would be every Raptors fan's dream (well most anyway!)...I'll keep hope alive at least - it's no more speculation that the worst case scenarios we all know too well...

Sorry boys, Wade is going NOWHERE. Please explain what would make him (a) leave more $$ on the table since Miami can pay him more, (b) Toronto winter vs. Miami beach all year round, (c) the fact FLA has way less taxes. If anything, Bosh is more likely to join D-Wade in Miami than the other way around.

All we're stating is wishful thinking - it was a fan who called in on Fan 590 and brought it up. As an NBA fanatic like yourself, I totally agree that all 3 reasons you stated clearly both more realistic and likely to occur than DWade coming to teh TDot. But, as a Raptors follower I am trying to be optimistic here smilies/smiley.gif
