The Red Rocket to wear the Maple Leaf?
Written by Sean Francois

Former Toronto Raptor, current San Antonio Spur, big man sharpshooter Matt Bonner, affectionately known as the 'Red Rocket', is in the process of attaining a Canadian passport! This opens the possibility of Matt becoming a member of Canada Basketball's Senior Men's team in the near future.

Matt grew up in Concord, New Hampshire, not far from the Canadian border, but more importantly his grandfather is from Newfoundland and his wife is also Canadian, as she grew up in Toronto, Ontario.

Read the full Canadian Press article here.

As the article indicates, as per FIBA rules, National teams can only have one naturalized player on the roster. This may spell the end of Philadelphia 76er Samuel Dalembert's days as a part of Canada Basketball's Senior Men's program, especially given the issues last summer when Canada was trying to qualify for the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics.
