Top 5 FRESHEST & CURRENT NBA Alternate jerseys

My beloved Chicago Bulls were sporting the NBA Latin Nights 'Los Bulls' jersey tonight as they avenged that previous 2OT heartbreak loss to the Miami Heat, and my conversation with fellow Hoop Heads North blogger Romes during the game got me thinking - who's got the nicest alternate jerseys in the NBA right NOW?!

Now...some of the NBA teams' current alternate jerseys are actually franchise throwbacks, so I'll take those out of consideration as I might do a throwback jersey post sometime down the road...although I'm sure that topic has been done time and time again during the height of the 'Mitchell & Ness' popularity. There are enough remaining alternates that I could easily do a 'Top 5 WORST Alternate' list - (Wizards anyone??) but we'll save that for a future post!

So, without delay here's my Top 5 FRESHEST & CURRENT NBA Alternate jerseys (click 'Read more...' below to continue):

5. Chicago Bulls - St. Patrick's Day Edition (Kelly Green):

The Bulls, Raptors, Knicks, and Celtics all have a St. Patrick's Day Edition jersey that they wear for select games during the week of St. Patrick's Day each year. I personally enjoy the Bulls one, just because it's so different to see the Bulls in all green.

Personal anecdote: I rocked this on St. Patty's Day this year at The Old Triangle (Shout outs to Joel, Brent, Jesse, and Jill!), the Irish pub where I enjoyed a copious amount of pints for the day - but alas, my jersey has Ben Wallace on the back and I caught a lot of comments. Both props and people clownin', but I just kept asking the haters who had more rings? Larry or Mike? :-)

4. Los Angeles Clippers - Alternate Royal Blue:

Well, the Clippers don't get a whole lot of love in general, but I'm gonna help them out with that. I think these compliment their other two traditional home and away jerseys nicely, and royal blue is a classic colour.

3, Denver Nuggets - Alternate Navy Blue:

A dope look with the team name 'Nuggets' in script lettering, and different enough from the Powder Blue colourway they are usually wearing on the road.

2. Los Angeles Lakers - Alternate White:

These are usually reserved for Sunday home games. The all white jerseys are a really clean look, and are a perfect fit for Southern Cali! For some reason my girlfriend really dislikes these jerseys - but I really think they look sharp, so they're on my list!

1. Toronto Raptors - Alternate Black:

With the Minnesota Timberwolves retiring their all black alternate road jerseys this season, the Raptors have now filled that void. This is currently my favourite NBA alternate jersey. A fresh look with a maple leaf logo just below the neck on the back of the jersey to set it off with subtle Canadian flair. It's also the first time since 2003 that a Raptors jersey has donned the city of Toronto's name across the chest. Sadly, I do not have this one in my personal jersey collection yet. I was considering getting a Jermaine O'Neal or a Jamario Moon at the beginning of the season, although I could probably get a sweet deal on one now. I saw them at Foot Locker back in the fall, I just might have to swing back through. :)

Have a personal favourite(s)? Let's hear it!

The 'Los Bulls' ones are pretty tight aren't they?
Here are the other teams that have them as well: http://store.nba.com/family/in...stpats3.10

I'm with you on the Raps St. Patty's Day jerseys, I like them as well - I just like the Bulls one more smilies/smiley.gif

The Bulls in green looked cool but it was awful watching them play the Celtics the night they wore them. Those jerseys look exactly like the Celtics alternates, making the game resemble a scrimmage in Waltham, MA.

Don't believe me? http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/...=290317004

I'm just happy that the Raps ditched the purple. The green Raps were nice too, just wished they also came with a 54-19 record

Speaking of the T-Wolves, where the hell was Los Lobos?!?!?

Strangely enough Minnesota didn't make the NBA Latin Nights short list :-)

Pete, I hear ya...that was pretty weird to see...I totally agree that it looked like a Celts inter-squad game!

I had to catch highlights that night since I was still at the pub enjoying some beverages and St. Patty's Day festivities smilies/smiley.gif

Definitely fresh!

The dinosaur jersey is one of the worst ever I think...I didn't mind the purple ones they had circa the VC days - mainly because Nike re-designed theirs along with Dallas, Miami, and the Lakers - so it was a brand new style, which they've stayed with - just dropped the purple like you said.

I also like the Raps Patty's Day Editions.

Agreed on dropping the purple, Romes. Thank goodness those are behind us.

Off on a tangent here - while the black is nice and fresh, I don't know if the regular home white and red gets enough love.

I am a huge fan of the 76ers road alt. reds. Unfortunately they've decided to only wear them twice a year
...

Hey Mace, is there any specific reason why they've decided to only wear them twice a year?

It just so happens that one of those games was vs. the Raptors back in November:

Pete,

According to the Raptors press release from September they stated that "The new uniform, which will be worn a minimum of six times on the road, will be showcased on two special occasions at Air Canada Centre during the team's home opener Friday, October 31 and then again New Year's Eve." http://www.nba.com/raptors/news/jersey_092508.html

They did wear the Black alternates @ home on those 2 dates, and they wore the Patty's Day ones at home once as well. Other than that I think the rest of the home games they wore their whites.

But, if you just mean the home jerseys don't get enough respect as a nice looking jersey - hahaha - I'm with you on that. They are pretty sharp.

Another team that also seems to be more partial to their alternate is Cleveland. They have been wearing that Alternate blue jersey A LOT (They also wore that mustard yellow Retro jersey quite a bit this season)...and their actual road wine coloured jersey seems to be getting second billing...I prefer the wine one myself.

I think the Blazers alternate red jerseys look pretty awesome. It has subtle changes from the other 2 jerseys, but they sure look better in red than in the black jerseys.

Yeah I mentioned in the post that the Knicks, Raptors, Celtics, and Bulls all have special St. Patty's Day jerseys...but there's something about the orange mixed with the green that looks odd to me on the Knicks version...it just wasn't in my top 5, that's all smilies/smiley.gif

Thanks a lot for the props on the article - I'm happy it was well received.

I'm with you 100% on the Latin Night theme and the Lakers' 'Sunday whites'

I love how no one's even mentioned the light blue Utah Jazz alternates. Those joints are fire. I actually like them better than the dark blue ones.

Yeah - JE Skeets referred to them via his picture on the Ball Don't Lie entry that featured our article:

But you're right, I like them as well - just not in my top 5 for this post smilies/smiley.gif
