Fifty-two points. Twenty-four rebounds. Eight blocks. One point separating the Spurs from the Mavericks.
Victor Wembanyama went for 52, 24 and 8 in San Antonio’s 112-111 win on Wednesday night, and the Spurs needed every bit of it.
Ladies and gentlemen, VICTOR WEMBANYAMA.

From a Toronto seat, my opinion: nobody in the East can do this. Not one guy.
The shooting line is what gets me. He went 16-of-28 from the field and 1-of-8 from three, so the supposed floor-spacing unicorn spent the night in the paint and got to the line 23 times. He hit 19. ESPN’s recap has both the points and the rebounds as career highs.
All of that in 34:04, and San Antonio was plus-23 with him on the floor.
Now the part where I try to sound smart. Nine of those 24 boards were offensive, and the Spurs shot 37-of-95 as a team, including 5-of-36 from deep. That is an ugly offense. A normal star can’t drag a team through that kind of shooting and still come out ahead by a single point. Wemby did it by living at the free-throw line (19-of-23) on one end and erasing shots (eight blocks) on the other.
My opinion, and I’m sticking with it: he’s already the most dominant player in the league. It’s early November, sure. Come get me in April.
One game decides nothing. But his bad shooting night, 1-for-8 from three, still came out to 52.
The East has plenty of stars and I like a few of them. Opinion again: none of them bends a game around the rim like this.
Dallas missed 63 shots and still lost by one. Somebody tell them that’s how it works now.
